run it

You need Debian 12 or newer with a graphical desktop, and Codex CLI installed separately with codex on your PATH.

Get the source from GitHub, then run these commands from the SWARM folder:

./swarm

Uses /usr/bin/python3 and VTE 0.68+. No virtual environment needed.

Choose a folder or Codex executable

./swarm --directory /path/to/project \
  --codex /absolute/path/to/codex

The first terminal otherwise starts in your home folder. If nvm or another tool adds Codex to your PATH, launch from that configured shell or supply --codex explicitly.

terminals & agents

cd into a project, then choose Swarm → New Agent. Open a regular shell with Session → New Terminal.

Manually launched Codex sessions are detected while in the foreground. Spinners show activity; agents opened through New Agent move left when ready, keeping your selected tab in place.

New Agent runs codex --yolo, disabling command approvals and the sandbox. Agents run with your user account’s permissions. Closing SWARM does not save or restore sessions.

broadcasts

One prompt, with three ways to choose who receives it.

Mode	Recipients
Global	All running agents in this window, including manually launched sessions.
Sleeper	Ready agents opened through New Agent. Skips busy agents, approval prompts, and unavailable status; does not wait for them.
Custom	The running agents you select, including busy or manually launched sessions.

Finish CLI onboarding and leave prompts empty before sending. Broadcasts use terminal input; Codex controls how busy agents handle it. If readiness changes mid-delivery, text may be pasted without submission—check the affected prompt.

account & usage

SWARM reuses your saved Codex sign-in. The titlebar shows remaining usage and reset times when available, refreshing every minute.
